E. King Seascape Seagull Oil Painting

Hi Everyone,

I found this today at my local thrift store and had to bring it home.  It's a signed E. King seascape and seagull oil painting on canvas. The artist did a great job in capturing the light, energy from the splashing waves against the coast, along with a sense of serenity and peace in this amazing piece of fine art.  Okay, I will let you all know what I find out about the artist E.(?) King.  If you recognize the artist signature I would appreciate any information you could share...

  1. I also have a painting by E. King (signature similar although not cursive) called Cornish Cottage. It came from my husband's family, but we don't know much about it.

  2. Hi Karanyw,

You might want to do some research on the artist Sidney E. King [1906-2004]. I found a post for an oil painting by him online with a non-script signature S. E. King, "Farm Family" oil on canvas.

  3. I also have a painting signed E. King... The signature is similar to the one on your painting but not identical. The G seems to be capitalized.

I would appreciate any information that you found. I live in New Brunswick, Canada. You can forward any info to ryan.f.totten@gmail.com. I can forward you a picture of my painting so we can compare. My painting is also a seascape featuring seagulls.

  4. Hi...Just picked up an original oil painting at my thrift store today - also signed E. King, a seascape showing broken down fence, two seagulls, beautiful color, movement, etc. I am not familiar with this artist and wondered if you found out anything else about him! Your painting is similar in style so I'm sure it's the same artist!

    1. Hi Don,

There have been several people from different parts of the U.S. That have contacted me with art that was similar to my post with various signatures. I have not been able to confirm just who this talented artist is for sure. Unfortunately, since I am not an art appraiser I can not access the value of your piece. I suggest that you try searching auction websites, such as EBay or art forums and post a picture there with a comment. You may find some help there with identifying the artist, along with value of your painting. Ok, take care and best wishes on unlocking the mystery... have a great day!

      Best Regards,

  7. I have an E King Seascape painting I purchased at a traveling "Starving Artist Sale" in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1983. Probably not worth much more than the frame it's in.

  8. I also have a seascape painting of an old sailor with a pipe. It is also signed E King, the G being a capital with a tail. Did you ever find anything out about it?

  9. About 10 years ago I bought a seascape signed by E. King (in all caps) from the Salvation Army in Granada Hills, CA (San Fernando Valley). I absolutely love it! It is an oil on canvas, 19 x 23 in. It has a yellow background with a bluff with green grass and brown reeds. There's a clump of white flowers in front, waves on the ocean and 4 gulls flying in the sky. I would also like to find out more about the artist.

  10. I have a painting with the similar signature. Look up the artist named Emma B King from Indiana. I believe that is her signature.

  12. I too have an E. KING (signed in all caps) that I bought at the Salvation Army store in Granada Hills, CA near Los Angeles around 2003. It has a yellow background surrounding a blue sky with clouds and 4 seagulls, sand bluffs with grass, a clump of very well done white flowers and some waves. I too would like to know more about the artist.
